Operation Flat Tire, Week Three

Not much to say today, just thought I'd check in. Forgot to post Fridays weigh in, down 0.8lbs, not as much as I wanted but it's a start. Went for my first run since march on Saturday with my bestie and it went surprisingly well. Did a little yoga last night in the form of a hour and fifteen minute long Hatha yoga class, and tonight my knee is bugging me so it's a little r&r with the pups tonight. I'll leave you guys with a pic of one of my pups, Dex. Toodles!

Cabin Times

My idea of the perfect weekend? Heading out of town to a place with snow, trees, no kitchen, no bathroom, and miles of quadding trails. Heaven!

The other half owns a tiny little cabin about 3 hours out of town, so just far enough away to be relaxing and just close enough to be able to go all the time. And my dogs love it too. Enjoy!

Operation Flat Tire. Week Two

I've been a good girl all week, eating my homemade chicken chili for lunch, my homemade oatmeal for breakfast... So what did I have for lunch today? A&W. Yeah. Gross. My bestie and I have a theory that you have to eat fast food once in a while to remember how disgusting it is and how horrible it makes you feel. Today def did that.

My weigh ins are on Fridays so that's just two days away and I'm hoping to be down two pounds. My goal is one or two pounds a week, which is entirely realistic and sustainable, so here's to a better lifestyle!

I'll leave you kids with a pic of my dinner tonight. Go sushi!

Operation Flat Tire. Week one, day three

This trying to eat healthier jazz kinda got derailed last night when the boy and I decided to go play a little bingo in the afternoon, then, because we were having so much fun and he can never pass up an opportunity to gamble, ended up coming back for evening bingo with mommy dearest and then staying for late night bingo. Yeah, bingo from 3pm till midnight, we are rock stars like that.

I used to go to bingo all the time as a child with my Nama, and last night definitely brought back memories. We would go up to Halfmoon Bay to visit and if we were good, we got to go play bingo. If not, we would get a treat brought back. Always in the form of a chocolate bar. She sure knew the key to my heart.

So back to the food. Last night consisted of lots of pop, chicken fingers, candy etc. I had a chicken chili simmering in the slow cooker but it ended up just going into containers for lunches. Oh well, healthy eats during the week.

In terms of setting myself up for success, I've learned a few things about myself. The main one being that weekends are not a time to commit to healthy eating or exercise. I never make it to the yoga studio on the weekend and I love food, so therefore, love eating out. As long as I stay somewhat healthy during the week, I won't feel so bad about the weekends.

Operation Flat Tire. Week one, day two

After getting sick and tired my health issues as of late, it's time to fix things. Today is week one, day two. My goal is to be a yogi more often, hopefully get back into running, and eat healthier.

I'm getting back to weighing myself every Friday and it looks like I have about 30lbs to lose by June 1.

This mornings feast is homemade blueberry banana walnut oatmeal. Yum!

Frustrated, Incorporated

Yeah, I'm back. Yeah, it's been a while. Yeah I keep promising you things then disappearing but whatevs. In defence, I've been through a lot of life changes lately. Those close to me know, another day, another post.

So anywho, I'm back running after a hiatus, due to foot problems, knee problems, lazy problems, time problems, schedule changes... Hows that for excuses? I joined an Intermediate Run Clinic, with hopes to meet new running buddies, and 'Ive met some great people. We are about 5 or so weeks in and today's run was a trail run, 48 mins of actual run time, and lots of hills.

 And it Blew it!

I didn't even get through the first interval without having to stop for a walk break because my calves and feet were screaming at me. Nothing new, I usually do the best I can, but on a hilly trail? Yeah, holy crap! I was so disappointed in myself because I love the few trail runs I have done and was looking foreward to this one. I seriously contemplated turning around but I decided to keep going. I'd like to say it got better but not so much. I ended up running (walking) with the sweeper (last runner), and bless her heart, she stuck with me. I know my body and its limitations and I know that when my legs are killing me, I tend to limp up hills due to extremely tight calves and the sweeper took this as a concern and decided we were turning back. I told her I was fine, I'd just walk it off but she proceeded to run ahead, yelling the name of the clinic leader to alert her we were turning back. To say I was embarrased is a huge understatement. We decided I would complete the run (walk) and stick with the group. We did some out and backs on the flat areas while the rest of the group turned around and on the way back down, my legs were fine. I know it has a lot to do with my lack of yoga for the last few weeks and the fact that I am carrying a few extra pounds but  I was seriously embarrassed today. Why? Cuz I'm a freaking run leader! Different clinic mind you, but I should be better than this. I really need to do some serious ass kicking of the personal variety or I will be a shrivelled ball of tight muscles, curled up on the couch with a cheesecake and a fork, and a massive Starbucks. Sounds like a good night to me...

Bonus points if you know the origin to the post title. Yeah I'm cool like that.

Guess who's back?

Well looky here! It's me again! And I'm back to share my proudest moment to date, a medal, silver to be precise, won this morning for coming second in my age group at the Mission Hillstomp 5k in Mission BC. Kickass eh?

I never once claimed to be photogenic...

So during my hiatus, lots of sheet went down, hence the hiatus. I'll save the boring details for another day(s) but essentially the bf and I called it quits (after 4 years? holy shit I'm getting old!), I work two jobs now, hence the lack of blogging and I have found a new love... yoga!

Seriously, yoga has made me a completely different person. I look at life differently, and I am a calmer, happier person overall. Running and yoga, that's my life now! Oh and my puppies of course!

Back to the race. Last year I ran this race, well kinda, they changed the route and name, but yeah, same shit, different pile. Well last year it was the first race I ever ran and I was so proud of myself for running that I knew it would be a race I would do every year. Fast foreward to this year, new route including trails and *gasp* hills and I rocked it! I had a blast! The trails were crazy nice, I was in a wonderful mood, thanks to my cheering squad of my mom and sister in law, who were rockstars for getting up at the ass-crack of dawn on a Sunday to cheer me on, and the fact that the rain held off the whole time! Oh and I am 22 lbs lighter this year ;) All the makings of a good race! Oh and the pizza served afterward didn't hurt either. The race started off at the top of a hill, so we raced down, along the road for about 1/2k then it was onto the trails. It was all fine and dandy, running down the windey hills but I am no dummy, and what goes up must come down! I hit the turn back point, the 3k marker, grabbed a water from the water station, almost puked up my water because clearly I have not learned how to drink out of a cup yet, and headed back up the hills. They were clow and gradual for about 1/2k then we hit Big Bertha (insert slight exaggeration here). It was enough to make your calves scream and I kept saying to myself "earn the downhills, earn the downhills", but that didn't work. I walked half the hill and i swear it would have been easier to run it. Curse! Oh well, last leg of the race, up the road, loop around the track and through the finish line, whoo hoo! I was early enough that they were still calling out names as people crossed the finish line so there was a bit of a rockstar moment there. We stuck around for awards and prizes, I didn't win the $750 gift certificate for Wenton's Cycle but a little girl did so I didn't pout too much! Grabbed a Starbucks on the way home, and parked my lazy ass on the couch for the rest of the afternoon, I sure deserved it!

Looping the track at the end.

Coming in for the kill! Final chip time, 34:30

My plan is to carve out more time for writing so I hope to see you all soon, namaste.
